PORTA DEL MEDITERRANI is a reflection on the commercial activity of Barcelona’s port, which has been fundamental in the development of the city, the creation of an industrial region around it and, lately, its transformation into a tourist hub of international renown. And yet, while trying to photograph this commercial and/or industrial activity, I was gradually seduced by the colours of the port: the intense green of the contaminated water, the yellow of the cranes, the brightly painted containers. Every time I went there to take pictures, I’d be approached at some point by a security guard who’d tell me, with good or bad manners, that photography was not allowed on that site. Because of that I kept asking myself: Who does Barcelona’s port belong to?
PORTA DEL MEDITERRANI pretenia reflectir l’activitat comercial del port barceloní que ha propiciat el desenvolupament de la ciutat, la creació d’una regió industrial al seu voltant i, darrerament, la seva conversió en un punt turístic de renom mundial. Tanmateix, mentre intentava retratar aquesta activitat mercantil i/o industrial, m’acabaven seduint els colors portuaris (el verd intens de l’aigua contaminada del port, el groc de les grues de càrrega i descàrrega, la intensitat dels colors dels contenidors). En totes les sortides que vaig fer per fotografiar-lo, en un moment o altre em vaig trobar algun/a guarda de seguretat que, de bones o males maneres, em va dir que no estava permès de fer fotos; això m'ha portat a preguntar-me: De qui és el port barceloní?
